Has Seamus Coleman returned to his GAA roots?
March 29, 2012

Seamus Coleman
This is the photo many GAA fans (especially those in Donegal) would love to see, Seamus donning a GAA jersey again. Unfortunately, this is only for the launch of the new Oisín CLG Manchester kit. The kit is sponsored by Altrincham based solicitor firm McHale & Co. www.mchaleandco.co.uk. Mchales have been sponsoring the Oisín senior squad for over 15 years and are an integral part of the clubs identity
Currently plying his trade with Everton FC in the English Premier League Seamus admits missing Gaelic Football desperately. He was part of a very successful underage team for Killybegs who dominated all their underage competitions from under 12's to minors. In fact despite wearing the blue of Everton week in week out it took some persuading to get Seamus to model the new kit as it reminded him of the blue of local rivals Kilcar.
Seamus continues a strong link between Oisín CLG and Donegal who currently have players from Buncrana, Aodh Rua Ballyshannon and Naomh Mhuire. In recent years they've also been represented by players from Ardara, Naomh Columba, Malin and Killybegs. The club secretary is married to an Arranmore native, and life President of the club Padraig Johnson currently resides in Dungloe, the home town of his wife. The club was formed in 1904 and has been at the centre of the Irish community in Manchester since then. This year has seen a large influx of new members as many leave Ireland in search of work, and through the club's extensive network of contacts many have found employment and places of accommodation. This year saw Oisín enter a team in the Dubai 9's competition where they were unlucky to be defeated in the final by Holy Trinity of Cookstown.
Oisín CLG are always looking for new players for both their mens and ladies teams. Founded in 1904 we are the oldest club in the North West. We are the only club in the North West to play on a non council owned pitch and we have our own clubhouse beside the pitch which includes bar and changing facilities.
If you are new to Manchester or the North West then we will always try and assist you in finding employment, accommodation and transport to training. Email us at
