Daingean AGM

Daingean GAA recently held their AGM in the town hall in Daingean. The meeting was well attended and officers were returned for the coming year. Best of luck to the new committee and thanks to outgoing committee members for their hard work and commitment. The officers were returned as following: Chairman Paul Keating; Asst chair Brendan Donagher; Secretary Lorraine Tierney; Asst Sec Padraic Keating; Treasurer Maurice Henry; Asst treasurer Vickie Keating; Pro David Walsh; Health and Wellbeing Niall Farrelly; Registrar Colm Jones and Health and Safety Brendan Donagher.

 

50 Year anniversary

Last Friday night in Castle Barna golf club, Daingean GAA celebrated the 50 year anniversary of the 1965 Senior Football Champions. This team were the last team to bring the Dowling cup to Daingean and were the most successful team in our history having also won the 1962 final and competed in a number of other Senior finals. The team included a large number of brothers; Hickey (Jody, Noel and Ambrose), Greene (Tommy and Peter), Carey (Peter and Eugene), Quinns (Joe and Tony), Smith (Noel and Jimmy), and the Foxes (Mick and Liam). These brothers were solidly backed by W.Greene, P.McCormack, L.Boland and M.Ashe. The ever green Jimmy Kilmurray captained the team to victory on the day. Guest of honour on the night was Westmeath footballer and RTE analyst Dessie Dolan. It was great to see so many old faces back together on the night and many a story was told about tackles won and scores missed late into the night. Also present on the night was the Dowling cup and thanks to Edenderry Gaa for facilitating this.

New Management

Congratulations and best of luck to Gary Comerford in his appointment as the Manager of the Daingean intermediate team for the coming 2016 season. Gary is making the transition from player to manager and we wish him every success and luck in his new role. Gary will bring great knowledge and energy with him into his new role. He will be putting his final management team together over the next few weeks
