The winning Kentstown NS squad

Kentstown NS claimed their second Navan League title in a row with a hard fought win against near neighbours Yellow Furze played in perfect conditions in Seneschalstown with Keelan Hanney the hero firing 2 goals for Kentstown.

Kentstown started the game brightly and opened up an early lead but this was clawed back by Yellow Furze when Colin Scanlon fired a lovely goal low to the  net after a mazy run through the Kentstown defence. Danny Waters and Cian Commons exchanged scores until Keelan Hanney struck the first of his goals to leave the tie finely poised at 1-5 a piece.

The final minutes of the first half were played out at a frenetic pace and some excellent work by the Kentstown backline laid the foundation for Cian Hosie to fire over two points leaving Kentstown with the upper hand. On the stroke of half time Sam Kirwan fired an opportunistic goal for Yellow Furze after a clever counter attack leaving his side with a narrow but deserved half time lead.

The second half was a tense tight affair as would be expected between two sets of players who line out for Seneschalstown. A clever fisted goal by Manney and a brace of points from Connor Rooney, a score from tenacious corner back Colm McDonnell and a lovely effort from Ciaran Collier seemed to leave Kentstown in an unassailable position leading 2-12 to 2-7. This however was to be Kentstown's final score as Yellow Furze laid siege to their neighbours goals as Colm Scanlon was denied by Sean Cleary in the Kentstown goals and Sam Kirwan shot narrowly over from a close range free. There was real drama at the end as Kirwan(who had an excellent kicking style) had a last gasp 21 yard free with his side now 3 points down. His attempt rattled off the Kentstown crossbar and was rifled to safety, to the sound of the final whistle.

Best for winners Kentstown were Keelan Hanney, Cian Hosie and Cian Commons up front while Connor Rooney and Eamon Finnegan performed heroics at the back. The gallant Yellow Furze team were best served by James Sharkey, Colin Scanlon, Sam Kirwan and tricky corner forward Adam Monerawela.
