Ballyskenagh and Killavilla amalgamate

March 29, 2013
Offaly GAA has a new club following the amalgamation of Ballyskenagh and Killavilla last Friday night.

A lack of playing numbers has forced the two south Offaly clubs to join forces at adult level, and from now on, they will be officially known as Ballyskenagh/Killavilla GAA club. Both clubs have struggled in recent years with Ballyskenagh having only avoided relegation to the junior ranks by virtue of a playoff victory over Crinkill last year, and Killavilla having lost last year's JHC 'A' semi-final to eventual winners Shinrone.

The new amalgamation will play in this year's IHC, while they will be entering a second team in the JHC 'A'. Attempts to keep their own separate football teams - who were expected to field in this year's JFC 'C' - have failed after the county board ruled against them doing so.

After receiving the green light from the county board's Management Committee to amalgamate earlier this month, Ballyskenagh and Killavilla held separate meetings within their clubs at which 75 per cent voted in favour of the amalgamation.
