Glencar/Manorhamilton got up and running in the Leitrim senior football championship thanks to a 2-19 to 1-14 win over Allen Gaels in Boggaun last night.

Leitrim star Barry McNulty was in superb form for the seven-time champions, scoring 1-7 over the hour, including a second-half goal.

The home side had led by 0-10 to 0-7 at the break and stretched their advantage to 10 by the midway stage of the second-half with the help of McNulty’s major.

Last year’s intermediate champions fought back to trim their deficit back down to three, but Jack Attard’s goal with six minutes remaining made sure of the win for Glencar/Manorhamilton.

Meanwhile, holders Leitrim Gaels made sure of their place in the knockout stages after edging a 1-15 to 1-14 win against Fenagh St Caillins at the Leitrim Gaels Community Centre.

A Ryan Jones goal moved the home side into a four-point early in the second-half, but Fenagh rallied and eventually moved three ahead with the help of scores from Oisin McLoughlin and Ruairi O’Rourke.

The Gaels cut it back to one ahead of Stephen Goldrick nailing a two-point free at the death to snatch both points for his side.

Saturday’s games in the Fenagh Perpetual Cup see Aughawillan hosting 2024 winners Mohill (7pm) and last year’s runners up Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins welcoming St Mary’s Kiltoghert (7pm).
