Meath joined Louth in the semi-finals of the Leinster U20 football championship after seeing off Longford by 3-15 to 0-12 in Clonguish last night.

Colin Scanlon and Cian Commons supplied the goals in the first-half for the visitors as they led by 2-6 to 0-3 at half-time and they’d keep their foot on the throttle in the second-half, with a late Adam Ducie goal helping to round off the win.

Along with holders Louth, who recorded a 1-17 to 3-8 win over Wexford in Hunterstown, the Royals now await to see who they’ll face in the semi-finals of the competition on April 22nd.

Next Wednesday’s quarter-finals will see Longford taking on Offaly (7.30pm), with the Faithful County having defeated Wicklow by 0-18 to 2-5 in Tullamore last night.

Cian McNamee struck a brace of two-pointers in the first-half as the home side led by 0-11 to 1-1 at half-time, and they’d extend their advantage before Thomas Tisdal grabbed a late consolation goal for Wicklow.

The other quarter-final in the eastern province will see Westmeath coming up against Kildare after the former saw off Jonny Cooper’s Dublin side by 2-16 to 2-13 in Kinnegad.

James McHugh and Kealan Connell fired in the goals for the Lake County, who led by 1-9 to 1-7 at the half, as they booked their place against the Lilywhites who had already won the three-team Group 3.

Meanwhile, Laois came from seven points down to hand Carlow a 3-17 to 2-17 defeat in Portlaoise in a derby clash which had doubled up as an Andrew Corden Cup quarter-final.

The O'Moore lads now progress to the last four of that competition along with Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford.
