Dublin progressed to the last eight of the Sam Maguire Cup race thanks to a hard fought 1-19 to 1-16 win over Cork at Croke Park this evening.
Dessie Farrell’s side ran up an early 0-4 to 0-0 lead before conceding a Chris Og Jones goal in the 10th minute and the points of Mark Cronin and Jones would help the Rebels hold a 1-8 to 0-9 lead come the break.
Cormac Costello (free) and Lee Gannon helped the Dubs level matters within five minutes of the restart and a brilliantly taken goal by Brian Howard would surge them in front.

John Cleary’s side responded well to the blow, tying things up and then moving in front with a Sean Walsh point, but the capital men were able to see out the victory with points via Sean Bugler, Paddy Small, Costello (free) and Luke Breathnach to join Kerry, Monaghan, Armagh, Tyrone and Meath in Monday morning’s quarter-final draw.
The remaining preliminary quarter-finals take place tomorrow afternoon with Down welcoming Padraic Joyce’s Galway to Newry (1.45pm) before provincial champions Donegal and Louth square off in Ballybofey (4pm).
