UL are through to the semi-finals of the Fitzgibbon Cup thanks to a 0-20 to 0-12 win against UCC at the UL Grounds last night (Wednesday).

Tipperary star Darragh McCarthy struck 0-9 for the hosts while Limerick’s Adam English, Diarmuid Stritch and Adam Screeney all chipped in with 0-2 apiece in the eight-point win for the competition’s favourites.

In Dangan, University of Galway were 1-21 to 1-14 winners over SETU Waterford to seal their place in the last four of the competition.

Sam O’Farrell weighed in with 0-11 for the home side, who trailed by 1-5 to 0-6 at the break thanks to Tom O’Connell’s goal, but the Galway students didn’t take long to get motoring again in the second-half and a late goal from Darragh Neary sealed the seven-point win which sets up a semi-final date against UL next week.

The other semi-final will see DCU taking on Mary Immaculate College after both sides came through their respective quarter-finals yesterday.

DCU recorded a 4-13 to 2-15 victory away to MTU Cork, where Sam Byrne (2, 1 penalty), Denis Walsh (1-5) and Luke Murphy grabbed the goals which helped to progress the visitors through.

In Limerick, Mary Immaculate College cruised to a 3-22 to 0-13 win over UCD to move into the last four, with Oisin O’Farrell (2-3), Shane O’Brien (0-8) and Shane Walsh (1-5) among those to star for the home side.
