Down kingpins Kilcoo have hit out at online comments allegedly directed at some of their players following last Sunday’s Down SFC semi-final against Clonduff.

The Magpies’ 2-15 to 1-7 victory at Páirc Esler was marred by a late brawl that resulted in four players receiving red cards and a row also breaking out in the stand.

Referee Conor Curran issued red cards to Clonduff trio Ross Carr, Darren O’Hagan and Eamon Brown, and another to Kilcoo's Niall Branagan, which looks set to rule him out of the county final against Burren on Sunday week.

In a Facebook post, Kilcoo said: “The players and committee of Kilcoo GAC are appalled at the malicious and vile allegations circulating on social media about comments allegedly made by some of our players during the course of the game between Kilcoo and Clonduff on Sunday evening past."

The post added: “For the record the players themselves and the club categorically deny these heinous accusations. No one with any sense of decency would behave in such a fashion."
