Cork captain Ian Maguire was delighted with Cork’s surprise All-Ireland SFC Round 3 victory over Mayo.
The Rebels came from six points down to win by three and earn a home All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final next weekend.
"For the group there's been a lot that's happened over the last 10 years, a lot of disappointments and failures. It eats away at you because there is such a talented group there," Maguire told GAAGO.
"We really bottled that up this year. We've been striving for a bit of consistency and we've been slowly getting there. I think that performance there, especially in the second half, really showed what we were all about.
"The question was asked of us, are we contenders or pretenders, and that's what this game was all about, to prove that we are there for the shake-up and not just there to turn up for the numbers."
