Kerry dug deep as they overcame a seven-point first-half deficit to defeat Kildare 4-18 to 2-16 and secure their first points of the Allianz Hurling League Division 2A campaign at the expense of the Lilywhites.
This afternoon's clash at Austin Stack Park took on an added significance after both sides had lost their opening round, and it was the losers who looked likely winners for most of the contest, having led by 1-6 to 0-2 on 22 minutes after an early goal from Kevin Aherne.
But Kerry rallied and trailed by just a point at the interval, 1-6 to 1-7, with Fionan Mackessy netting in injury-time.
Colin Walsh (Kerry) and temporary substitute David Qualter (Kildare) then traded goals as the Lilywhites continued to hold the advantage after the break and had stretched their advantage to five-points by the third-quarter mark.
However, the hosts then suddenly caught fire, outscoring their opponents by 2-10 to 0-3 from the 52nd minute onwards.
Shane Conway's goal dragged the Kingdom to the front for the first time since the 4th minute before Shane Nolan provided the coup de grace via the penalty spot in injury-time.
