Dublin GAA is in mourning following the passing of one of its greats Jimmy Lavin last night.

Jimmy played with Dublin’s senior footballers from 1949 to 1957 before going on to become a selector with the team years later.

At minor level, he won an All-Ireland MFC crown in 1945 before going on to pick up another Celtic Cross a year later with the county’s minor hurlers.

He played at every level for his club St Vincent’s, winning senior football medals in 1949-55 and 1957-59 when he often lined-out at full-back but sometimes played centre-field.

Jimmy Lavin passed away peacefully last night, with his native St Vincent’s leading the tributes to him.
