Cadogan: home advantage could swing it for Limerick

Waterford's Darragh Lyons and Alan Cadogan of Cork

Alan Cadogan believes home advantage could tip the balance in Limerick's favour in Sunday's Munster SHC final.

After pocketing Munster medals in 2017 and '18, the Cork star is disappointed not to be involved again this year, but acknowledges that Limerick and Tipperary deserve to be there.

“There are no out-and-out sweepers in either team, which is good for hurling, good for the public," the Douglas clubman told the Irish Daily Star.

"I don’t think there’ll be anything in it. Maybe the Gaelic Grounds will have a bit of a factor in it, in Limerick’s favour, but the bottom line is the best two teams are in the Munster final, you can have no complaints with that.”

If Cork are to win the All-Ireland this year, they will have to take the scenic route - they face the losers of the Joe McDonagh Cup final in the All-Ireland preliminary round quarter-final next weekend - and Cadogan believes the extra games could be a blessing in disguise.

"We don't make excuses. If we don't perform, we don't perform," the sharpshooter continued.

"But you still have to keep coming back. You still have to be mentally strong enough and there are a lot guys inside there who are chasing the same goal. That four or five weeks for whoever wins on Sunday - they're going to have that break. Whether it works to their advantage or not..."
