DCU secured a safe passed into the quarter-finals of the Fitzgibbon Cup after a strong second-half showing against Cork IT this evening.
The 2018 beaten finalists followed up their opening-day win at Waterford IT with a convincing 0-23 to 0-12 success in the DCU Sportsgrounds.
In their first outing in Group C, Cork IT actually enjoyed the brighter start and raced into a 0-6 to 0-3 after 12 minutes before DCU grew into the game and outscored the visitors by 0-8 to 0-3 for the remainder of the half to take a 0-11 to 0-9 lead into the break.
Competition favourites DCU continued where they left off from the change-over with Rian McBride, Killian Doyle and James Bergin all adding to their tally.
Cork IT could only muster three scores in the second period as they turn their attentions to next week's crucial tie away to Waterford IT, while DCU advance to the last-eight.
Meanwhile, at Santry Avenue, IT Carlow got their title challenge back on track by comfortably beating hosts Trinity College.
After last week’s historic success over Garda College which was their first ever win in the competition, Trinity were brought crashing down to earth following a 0-24 to 1-8 defeat at the hands of the Carlow students who narrowly lost to LIT last weekend.
Chris Nolan and Seamus Casey combined for 0-12 for the winners.
