Shelmaliers 4-14

Kilanerin 1-07

Shelmaliers were crowned Wexford senior football champions for the first time following an emphatic victory over Kilanerin in today's final replay at Innovate Wexford Park.

Simon Donohoe, whose late equalising point forced the replay, AJ Lehane, Ross Banville and Eoghan Nolan all raised green flags as the blacks and ambers made history in impressive fashion.

Despite kicking nine first half wides, Shels held a commanding 1-6 to 0-1 lead at the break. Donohue had the ball in the net after barely 60 seconds before Eoghan Nolan (two), Lehane (three) and captain Eoin Doyle added points to send them into the interval in a strong position.

And the winners put the result beyond doubt in the first 10 minutes of the second half when further majors from Lehane and the youthful Banville extended their advantage to 3-9 to 0-3.

A fourth goal from the outstanding Nolan on the three-quarter hour mark added gloss to the scoreline before former All Star Matty Forde scored a consolation goal for an outclassed Kilanerin from a penalty with five minutes remaining.
