An Offaly club which only came into existence last year won its second championship in a week yesterday.

Clodiagh Gaels, which is an amalgamation of the old Killeigh and Killurin clubs, secured promotion to the senior hurling ranks after powering to a 1-21 to 1-9 victlory over Carrig & Riverstown in the Offaly IHC final at O'Connor Park. The success came just eight days after the new club landed the Offaly JHC title following a 1-10 to 0-11 victory over Kilcormac/Killoughey in Rath.

Yesterday's win, which atoned for a 25-point defeat to Lusmagh in last year's final, was masterminded by former Laois manager Damian Fox, who famously won an Offaly SHC medal with Tullamore at the age of 48 in 2009.
