Brian Cody praised Jonjo Farrell after he marked his championship debut with 1-5 for Kilkenny in their Leinster SHC semi-final victory over Dublin last night.
The Thomastown attacker took his opportunity with both hands to help the All-Ireland champions to a surprisingly comfortable 1-25 to 0-16 win in Portlaoise.
"1-5 is a very good return for any forward, and the scores were obviously very well taken," Cody told Sky Sports.
"Jonjo has been an important member of our panel for a few years now, a hugely committed player, and it is great to see him do so well."
Cody was pleased to see Kilkenny make the most of wind advantage at the start of the second half when the hit their shell-shocked opponents for an unanswered 1-8.
"The breeze doesn't win matches for you, but at the same time it is a factor," he noted.
"It was strong and were able to get the ball up the field that bit quicker in the second half. But it wasn't just a question of getting the ball up to the square - we picked our men out fairly well too. We are reasonably happy with the way we performed."
