John McEntee is expected to be appointed as the new Monaghan senior football manager at Monday night’s county board meeting.
RTE Sport reports that the former Armagh All-Ireland winner is set to succeed Gabriel Bannigan, who stepped down in August after two years in charge of the Farney men.
McEntee recently completed a four-year spell managing Inniskeen Grattans, guiding the club to two Monaghan senior championship finals. He also previously managed Clontibret and co-managed Crossmaglen Rangers alongside Oisín McConville, winning the 2015 Ulster club senior championship title and two Armagh SFC crowns.
The 2002 All-Ireland winner will now turn his attention to rebuilding Monaghan following a difficult National League campaign, which saw them relegated from Division 1 before they reached the Ulster final and the All-Ireland quarter-finals this past summer.
