Pauric Pierce, the referee at the centre of the Brian Gavin abuse row, has resigned, according to a report in today's Irish Daily Star.
Reports began to emerge last night that Pierce had stepped down from his post as Offaly's Coiste na nÓg chairman and has also quit as a referee for the Faithful County.
Gavin found himself in hot water after being reported by Pierce for allegedly making abusive comments during an Offaly junior football championship quarter-final between Clara and Kilclonfert.
However, the three-time All-Ireland hurling referee was cleared of any wrong doing by Offaly's Hearings Committee last Thursday week, allowing him to take charge of the All-Ireland SHC semi-final between Kilkenny and Waterford that Sunday.
