St Kieran's Colleges are celebrating their 20th Croke Cup success this evening after finishing with three points to spare over Thurles CBS following an entertaining final at Semple Stadium.

In what was a fine advertisement for schools hurling, the famed Kilkenny academy cemented their position at the top of the roll of honour in front of an attendance of 3,852.

Despite playing against the breeze, they overcame the set-back of conceding a 13th minute Michael Connors goal to go in at the break with a 1-10 to 1-7 advantage.

Ray Lahart cancelled out Connors' goal four minutes later and the same player brought the first-half scoring to a close from a free.

The second-half followed a similar pattern as the Niall Cahill managed Thurles, bidding for only their second outright success, drew first blood but the team in black and white hoops were not to be denied.

St Kieran's captain Sean Morrissey sent over the insurance point to give his side a four point cushion on the stroke of full-time and all Thurles could muster was a point in reply.
