Mayo club Charlestown have announced the appointment of former captain David ‘Ginger’ Tiernan as their new senior football manager.
Tiernan, who skippered the Sarsfields to Moclair Cup glory in 2001 and played in four Mayo SFC finals, takes over from Stephen Healy. His selectors are Francis Mannion, Patrick Walsh, Michael Horkan and Phillip Craig.
The late appointment comes after Charlestown experienced a difficult 2024 SFC campaign which saw them lose to Garrymore and Ballyhaunis, and draw with Castlebar Mitchels, before beating Belmullet in a relegation semi-final.
“We wish the lads the very best of luck for the season ahead,” the east Mayo club posted on Facebook.
