Sigerson Cup round-up: holders crash out

UUJ defeated DIT by 1-9 to 1-6 in today's Sigerson Cup quarter-final in Coolock.
Tyrone's Ronan O'Neill netted the all-important goal for Adrian McGuckin's charges in the 49th minute. The winners led by 0-6 to 0-2 at the break, having played with wind advantage.
Monaghan forward Kieran Hughes closed the first-half scoring with a brilliant point from distance, while Tyrone's Connor McAliskey registered three points for Jordanstown, who had Jamie Clarke (Armagh) black-carded late on.
UCD will provide semi-final opposition to UUJ after their thrilling 3-11 to 3-10 victory over DCU at Belfield. Assisted by the wind UCD led by 2-9 to 1-1 at the break with ryan Basquel grabbing a UCD goal after just 10 seconds. Craig Dunleavy hit the DCU major bit with Paul mannion impressive, UCD built up an eleven point half time lead. Wicklow's Conor McGraynor responded with a second half goal and the gap was down to four at the start of the third quarter. A third DCU goal had it reduced to a one point game and with the wind behind them, the odds favoured the visitors before a third UCD goal stretched it to four. Conor McGraynor then landed two points but there was no way back for Niall Moyna's men.
In today's other two quarter-finals, NUI Maynooth defeated GMIT by 1-10 to 0-9 and UCC scored a 1-13 to 1-5 victory over CIT.
Tipperary's Michael Quinlivan opened the scoring with a UCC goal and the winners never looked back after leading by 1-6 to 0-2 at the interval.
Those results mean that NUIM and UCC will meet at the semi-final stage for the second time in four years.
