Malachy Travers of Ballyboden St Enda's is tackled by Kelvin Reilly of Clonkill
Former Wexford hurler Malachy Travers has called time on his hurling career.
Travers had huge success with Dublin club Ballyboden St Enda's where he won six senior hurling championship titles during his seven years with the club.
During that time he was part of the side that won five consecutive county titles, and the former Naomh Eanna clubman admitted to the Irish Mirror that he made up his mind last year to retire.
"I decided at the start of the 2013 it would be the last year for me, and there's no going back on that," stressed Travers. "It's always sad when you have to make a decision like this but no player can go on forever. I'm 33 years of age and I've become a little fragile injury-wise in my 30s and spent a lot of time with physios.
"Thankfully last year I was much luckier with regard to injuries but that wasn't going to influence me to change my mind. I'm getting married this year and all the various preparations will take up a lot of time."
Travers was part of the Wexford senior squad from 2002 to 2011 during which time he won a Leinster senior hurling championship medal in 2004.
