Lynch to remain involved with Banner

Clare's Fergal Lynch
Fergal Lynch will continue to have an involvement with the Clare hurlers next year after accepting an offer to join Davy Fitzgerald's backroom team.

The Clooney-Quin clubman, who announced his inter-county retirement after winning an All-Ireland medal with the Banner in September, will work as a forwards coach alongside Paul Kinnerk.

"Davy contacted me about three weeks ago asking me to get involved and he asked me to consider a role as a forwards coach with Paul. It would be hard to say no to that offer. I jumped at the opportunity which should help me to get experience for myself in this area," Lynch told the Clare Champion.

"Five years ago, I was involved with the Clare U14s when they got to the (Tony) Forristal final, where they lost out to Cork. It's funny the way things go.

"Two members of that team, Bobby Duggan and Shane Gleeson, are part of the (senior) panel now. I never thought I'd see the day when I'd be coaching these lads again. I won't have any input into team selection or decisions like that. This is really a learning curve for me."
