Kingdom duo hang up their hurls
February 21, 2013
Kerry manager Tom Howard has revealed that both Shane Brick and Liam Boyle have retired from inter county hurling.
The duo has been great servants to the Kingdom over the past decade or more and their experience will be greatly missed.
With Kerry, Brick has won National Hurling League Div 2 (2001) and Div 3A (2010) titles. He was also part of the Kerry team that made the 2010 final of the Christy Ring Cup but lost out to Westmeath, he missed the following years win with an injury.
Boyle played in Croke Park in the 2003 National Hurling League Div 2 final only to lose out to Antrim by 3-18 to 3-12. He was the team caption in 2007 after Ballyduff County Championship win in 2006.
Brick has cited a long term injury and travelling from Cork as the reasons for his retirement, while Boyle announced his decision to retire in the wake of his brother Mikey's 48-week suspension.
Speaking to the Kerryman Howard said: "Shane Brick and the likes of Liam Boyle have been great servants to Kerry hurling.
"I remember from my time down here what people think of them and deservedly so. I'd like to wish both well in their retirement and if they want to come out of retirement there's always a place for them in our panel."
