Hurney to captain Na Deise
January 25, 2013

Waterford's Gary Hurney gets in his shot as Limerick's Tommy Stack closes in.
Gary Hurney has been named as captain of the Waterford footballers for 2013.
The dual player, who made his intercounty debut twelve years ago, is however due to miss the first two rounds of the national football league due to suspension.
For those matches against Clare and Tipperary, vice-captain Shane Briggs should lead out the team - provided he recovers from a knee injury.
Manager Niall Carew told The Examiner that selecting veteran attacker Hurney as captain was an obvious choice:
"He has always shown great commitment to Waterford in the past but I make my decisions on what I see myself and he has been first class.
"Gary is a player that would make any team in Ireland. He has shown that in the past with Munster. He gives us great leadership on and off the field.
"Like Gary, Shane has given his heart and soul to Waterford. He leads by example as well and I couldn't be happier to have these two lads leading us out."
