Waterford minor star Stephen Bennett bagged 0-10 as Blackwater CS captured their first Dean Ryan Cup at the expense of county rivals Dungarvan CBS in Fraher Field yesterday.

The centre forward accounted for all of the Lismore school's first half tally from frees as they took a slender 0-5 to 0-4 advantage into the break. Patrick Curran was also Dungarvan's only scorer at the other end.

Bennett and Cormac Curran traded points on the restart before Blackwater hit three-in-a-row per Bennett (two) and Shane Murray to put daylight between the sides for the first time. A brace of Curran frees reduced the gap again, but Blackwater weren't to be denied as two late points from Bennett (one free, one '65) sealed an historic victory.
