The 2011 Laois Footballer and Hurler Player of the Year awards have been announced.

The football award goes to county star Cahir Healy, who was instrumental in Portlaoise's success this year as they claimed their fifth consecutive county title.

Healy, who is also an exceptional hurler was outstanding for the town team and his consistency in defence is the main reason for this latest accolade.

In the hurling category, it was no surprise that Willie Hyland was named Hurler of the Year as he has been the best forward in the county for the past few years and kept his incredible scoring record going as Clough Ballacolla claimed a second senior hurling championship title in three years.

Both players are still involved in the club championships as Portlaoise face Louth champions St Patrick's at the weekend, while Clough Ballacolla take on Wexford kingpins Oulart-The Ballagh in the Leinster club SHC semi final.
