Kerry SFC: Rathmore rally to knock out Crokes
October 03, 2011
Kerry captain Colm Cooper suffered more heartbreak yesterday when his club Dr Crokes were dethroned as county champions by Rathmore in a sensational quarter-final.
The Killarney side looked to be on course for a comfortable win when they led by 0-10 to 0-1 at half-time, but two goals from John Moynihan brought Rathmore back into it before they snatched a 3-10 to 0-16 victory thanks to Paul Reen's late goal.
Meanwhile, Dingle suffered a surprise 1-7 to 2-7 defeat to East Kerry with first half goals from Derry Ahern and Anthony O'Sullivan laying the foundation for the divisional side's victory. East Kerry led by 2-3 to no score before Dingle rallied to trail by 1-4 to 2-4 at the break.
Dingle got to within a point with 10 minutes remaining, but some wasteful finishing allowed East Kerry to hold out for a semi-final place.
Also through to the last four are Laune Rangers who also caused a surprise when they had the minimum to spare over Tommy Walsh's Kerin's O'Rahilly's.
