Clarinbridge management team steps down

Clarinbridge manager Micheál Donoghue.
Michael Donoghue has stepped down as manager of All-Ireland senior club hurling champions Clarinbridge.

A former Galway championship winning Clarinbridge captain, Donoghue spent two years in charge of the 'Bridge but has opted to step down following the St Patrick's Day win over Kilkenny and Leinster kingpins O'Loughlin Gaels.

That 18-point victory was the second All-Ireland title for Donoghue, as he had been part of the backroom team which steered Galway to the U21 title six years ago.

According to a report in the Galway City Tribune, Donoghue has cited family reasons for his decision to step down.

His management team, consisting of Tom Helebert, Noel Burke, Tomas Flynn and Conor Lawless, have also brought their involvement with the Clarinbridge senior team to an end.

Donal Walsh, who has served as selector to John McIntyre and Donoghue in the county championship winning campaigns of 2001 and 2011, has taken charge of the team in the short-term while the club weighs up its options before appointing Donoghue's successor.
