Captain Barry Grogan scored nine points as Tipperary lowered the colours of Division 3 leaders Wexford at Semple Stadium on Sunday.

Grogan's impressive tally included four points from play as Tipp eased their relegation worries and gave themselves an outside chance of reaching the final.

Just four points separate all eight sides in Division 3 after Sunday's games, with Wexford still top (ahead of Offaly on head-to-head) with eight and Limerick and Waterford propping up the table on four.

Amazingly, five sides are still in the running for promotion and five sides technically still in danger of relegation going into the final round of fixtures, with both promotion and relegation still technically possible for both Tipperary and Louth.

Despite playing into the breeze in Thurles, Tipp led by four at half-time, although a couple of late scores from Ben Brosnan and Aindreas Doyle ensured that Wexford finished the half on the front foot.

However, Wexford managed just three further points after the interval as Tipp ground it out convincingly, and the victory could have been even more emphatic but for a fine stop by Anthony Masterson to deny the rampant Grogan.

The closest Wexford came to a goal was Redmond Barry's shot which cannoned back off the woodwork 13 minutes from time, and that moment effectively ended their hopes of taking anything from the game.
