Padden 'honoured' to play for Armagh

Armagh recruit Billy Joe Padden
Former Mayo footballer Billy Joe Padden will experience a strange feeling when he lines out for his adopted county Armagh against the county of his birth at the weekend.

Padden transferred to Armagh at the start of the year and just a few short months later, he will return to his old stomping ground in Castlebar.

The Belmullet native will face many friends when he takes to the field on Sunday afternoon, but it is a decision he doesn't regret, given the travelling he had to do to line out for Mayo.

In 2004, Padden made his debut for Mayo and he went on to make 70 appearances for the Connacht side, but since moving to Newry, he has found the travelling become too much.

"I'm looking forward to this," said Billy Joe. "I am delighted I'm involved with Armagh that they have asked me to come in. It's an honour.

"I am just going to give it my best shot and try to be a good member of the panel. I think you take any of the top eight or ten teams in the country and Armagh are definitely in there."
