Mahon blow for Galway

Galway's Ger Mahon
Galway hurlers' injury crisis has deepened with the news that Ger Mahon will miss the remainder of the Allianz National League.

Mahon was forced off with an ankle injury during his side's wide-margin win over Offaly last weekend.

Scans have shown that the defender has suffered a fracture, and will have no chance of returning to action before the end of the league campaign.

He is expected to be out of action for three months, and faces a race against time to be back in action in time for the Leinster quarter-final against either Carlow or Westmeath on Saturday 4 June.

Mahon joins Kinvara club colleague and Galway captain Shane Kavanagh on the long-term absent list, while Tony Óg Regan - who also picked up an injury against Offaly - Joe Canning, Damien Joyce, Fergal Moore, Aidan Harte and Niall Donohue are all expected to miss next week's trip to Pairc Ui Chaoimh to take on Cork.
