Hynes is new Galway football board assistant secretary
December 12, 2010
Ian Hynes was elected assistant secretary of the Galway football board at Friday night's annual convention in Loughgeorge.
He defeated Mary Judge by two votes to replace the outgoing Tommie Kelly, who held officership with the board for 40 years, while Paddy Sweeney saw off the challenge of Tommy Keenan to retain his position as assistant tresurer. Seamus O'Grady and Milo Costello were re-elected secretary and treasurer respectively.
The motion to have relegation from the local championship was passed, meaning the leagues will have no bearing on club status for 2011.
Meanwhile, the Galway hurling board also has a new secretary following Kilbeacanty's Pat Kearney election in Athenry on Wednesday night. John Fahey is now vice-chairman with Joe Byrne continuing as chairman for a second year.
