Kavanagh labels IHC win as "special"

A proud moment for the St Lachtains club as Eoin Guinan and Niall Phelan raise the All Ireland Club IHC Cup at Croke Park
Kilkenny hurling legend Michael Kavanagh has claimed that appearing in his 14th All-Ireland final on Saturday evening last was a "special" occasion.

Kavanagh reckons being part of the St. Lachtain's (Kilkenny) side that beat St. Gall's of Antrim to lift the All-Ireland club IHC title at Croke Park afforded him a rare degree of satisfaction.

"It's very special," Kavanagh admitted at the final whistle.

"This is a proud moment for everyone involved, and it ranks high in my own career.

"To win an All-Ireland with your county is a great achievement, but to win an All-Ireland with your club is special.

"This time last year we didn't see anything like this happening, but it's been a fantastic journey for the last 12 months.

"To win the county intermediate title for the first time in 25 years, and then to build on that, win the Leinster and now the All-Ireland has been unbelievable.

"It's been a fantastic journey, and unbelievable to go back to Freshford as All-Ireland champions."
