Fox rules out Tullamore manager's role

Former Laois Hurling manager Damian Fox
Offaly hurling champions Tullamore's search for a new manager goes on after veteran goalkeeper Damian Fox turned down the role. The former Laois manager, who won his first Offaly SHC title last year at the age of 48, was the obvious choice to replace Kevin Martin, who has appointed Westmeath manager for the coming season. But Fox is already committed to managing the Offaly minors and Westmeath club side Castletown-Geoghegan, as well as continuing his playing career. "I did my stint back in 2000. I had three years there as manager of the team and managing Tinnahinch (in Laois) at the same time, and it was a fair workload," he told the Irish Daily Mirror. "At the moment, I have committed to Castletown-Geoghegan for another year in Westmeath as well as the Offaly minors and it'd be hard to manage Tullamore as well. "The way the situation Kevin is in at the moment, he's committed to Westmeath and it's a full-time job." Although Martin will not be in charge of the town side next year, Fox expects the 1994 and '98 All-Ireland winner to continue his playing career. "I think he will be available, but at the moment he's busy enough. With the ban on inter-county training, they're trying to cram in a lot before the first round of the Kehoe Cup and league."
