Club Notes – 03.08.2021 – Lacken-Kilbride

Well done to all who helped with the Field Day and Sponsored Run last week, especially Grace Haughian who coordinated the event and day. For anyone who was away that weekend and could not do the run, Diarmuid will be doing his run this Sunday the 8th at 12 Noon from the Pitch, if anybody wants to join him. He has offered any Under 12 who manages to beat him 100 euro!!  A tempting workout!

 

The race was won by (1st to 3rd): Callum Ashmore, David Balfe, Conor McNamara.  Fionn Cummins won the Juvenile Race.  Well done.

 

All proceeds from the Field Day and Sponsored Run are going towards the levelling of the new community sports facility.  And with that in mind we can announce…New Clubhouse, Community Walking Track and Site Plans have been given FULL planning approval...and work is to commence next Monday the 9th of August.  This phase of the works will include levelling the entire site, increasing the car park and first phase work on the walking track. Big shout out to Ger Kelly for all his help throughout the planning process.

 

So, the new pitch should be ready for play come next April.  In the meantime, Mary and Francy Murphy have kindly provided their field across from the National School for the remainder of the season for training purposes and the Blessington Club will be trying their best to hold our remaining Juvenile home matches in Blessington.  The support from everyone throughout the village, Valleymount and Blessington GAA Clubs and the surrounding community has been overwhelming.

 

Tom McKeon, Pat Donohoe, John Doran, Austin Tisdall and Diarmuid were busy on Monday fencing off the site to be ready for Juvenile training from the 9th.  Yet more support from volunteers helping the Club get back on its feet.  Well done and thanks to all.

 

Western Gales win Junior B Championship

 

Special mention to Captain Finn Craul who helped drive Western Gaels to the Junior B Championship title for 2020, which also included players for Kilbride and Lacken: Niall Toolis, Mick Ruttle and Daniel Van Alpen.
