Leixlip have been crowned Kildare intermediate hurling champions after Naas confirmed they were unable to field a team for Sunday's scheduled final.

The Kildare CCC announced that the fixture, which was due to take place in Hawkfield at 11am on November 1st, had been cancelled following notification from Naas.

The final had already suffered a series of postponements and fixture changes, having initially been scheduled for October 24th before adverse weather conditions rendered the pitch unplayable.

Leixlip will now claim the title without getting the opportunity to contest the decider on the field, bringing a disappointing end to what had promised to be an exciting championship finale.

Leixlip finished top of the group stage with five wins from five, while Naas recorded four victories, their only defeat coming against Sunday's intended opponents.

Attention now turns to Leinster for both clubs, with Leixlip set to face Westmeath champions Turin in the Leinster junior club hurling championship, while Naas prepare for their Leinster senior opener against Kilcormac-Killoughey on November 8th.
