Two-time All-Ireland winner Shane O’Donnell played his last game for Clare today as the Banner men exited the hurling championship at the hands of Limerick.
Having reaffirmed during the week that this would be his last campaign with the Banner men, the Munster champions’ 1-21 to 1-19 victory at Croke Park this afternoon means that O’Donnell has now retired from inter-county hurling.
The highlights of his glittering Clare career include scoring a hat-trick in the 2013 All-Ireland SHC final replay against Cork, winning three All-Star awards and being named 2024 Hurler of the Year.
The 32-year-old also helped his county to National League honours in 2024 and 2016, as well as All-Ireland U21 crowns in 2014 and 2013 and a Munster MHC success in 2011.
Speaking to RTE Sport after his side’s All-Ireland SHC semi-final defeat at Croke Park, an emotional O’Donnell said: “It’s been an honour to be able to wear the Clare jersey and I’ve enjoyed ever minute of it.”
