Michael Langan and Shane O’Donnell have been named as joint-captains of the Donegal senior football team.
The pair take over the role from Paddy McBrearty, who retired on medical grounds last December. The announcement was made alongside Donegal’s team selection for last Sunday’s win over Monaghan which secured their place in the Allianz Football League Division 1 final against Kerry.
The new joint-captains will hope to lift silverware in Croke Park next Sunday before leading Donegal out against Down in their Ulster SFC quarter-final against Down in Letterkenny on Sunday, April 26.
“CLG Dhún na nGall are delighted to announce that Michael Langan & Shane O’Donnell will be joint captains for the year ahead,” a county board statement read.
Meanwhile, impressive newcomer Conor McCahill is expected to miss the League final as well as Donegal’s Ulster U20FC Round 2 clash with Monaghan tomorrow night after suffering a hamstring injury in last Wednesday’s narrow U20 opening round win over Fermanagh.
“He’s done a bit of damage to his hamstring,” Jim McGuinness said of the Four Masters youngster.
“We are getting him assessed and we haven’t got a result of that, but we will keep you posted on that.”
