Derry crushed Offaly with a 2-25 to 0-8 victory at Celtic Park this evening to join Cork and Meath on six points at the top of the Allianz Football League Division 2 table.
Ciaran Meenagh’s men hammered in two goals inside the opening 10 minutes to assume control of this contest before going on to record an emphatic 23-point win and hand their Leinster counterparts a fourth straight defeat of the league campaign.
Niall Loughlin and Matthew Downey grabbed the early goals for the Oak Leafers and Paul Cassidy, Shane McGuigan and Brendan Rogers added two-pointers ahead of Loughlin, who finished with 1-5, sailing over another from distance that moved their side towards an unassailable 2-17 to 0-3 half-time lead.
McGuigan, Downey and Cassidy added more points to the home side’s tally early in the restart ahead of scores from Jordan Hayes, Keith O’Neill and Harry Plunkett (free) looking to halt the one-way traffic for Offaly.
Niall O’Donnell rounded off Derry’s impressive tally in the 67th minute before Plunkett grabbed the visitors’ sole two-pointer of the evening in the closing stages.
