Killoe Emmet Og cruised into the knock-out stages of the Longford senior football championship yesterday (Saturday) evening thanks to an emphatic 2-17 to 0-5 win against Mostrim in Granard.

The 2023 champions were in ruthless form as they finished with 18 points to spare to move top of Group 1 in the Sean Connolly Cup race.

Conor Mulligan found the net after just two minutes to set the tone for Killoe and they’d fire in another through Ronan Keogh to move towards a double digit lead at half-time (2-7 to 0-3).

Paddy Moran shot over a point to extend the lead to 11 points and Cian Dooner, Ronan McGoldrick and Larry Moran would go to raise more white flags which well and truly out the Emmet Ogs out of sight, sealing their place in the last eight.

Meanwhile, a 2-12 to 0-18 draw between Colmcille and Dromard sees them both advancing through to the quarter-finals.

Newtonforbes played host to the first stalemate of this year’s competition, with Cathal McCabe netting both of Colmcille’s goals, but they wouldn’t be enough for a win as the scores of Aaron Farrell and Peter Reynolds kept their opponents right in touch.

Dromard looked to have clinched the win through Diarmuid Masterson point late on, but there was still time for Jack Macken to nail a free to ensure the spoils were shared.

Holders Abbeylara are back in action this afternoon as they take on Mullinalaghta St Columba's (2pm) before the meeting of Longford Slashers and Rathcline (4pm).
