Michael Murphy is on course to make his eagerly-awaited Donegal comeback against Kerry next weekend, despite a recent hamstring injury.

The 2012 All-Ireland SFC winning captain and star forward has returned to the fold, three years after announcing his inter-county retirement. His return comes after he was part of the Football Rules Committee whose rule enhancements, ironically, aim to encourage more attacking play.

“He did nick his hamstring when he came in first but he’s fine now, he’s in that same phase as Odhran McFadden-Ferry, Eoghan McGettigan and those sort of players,” Donegal manager Jim McGuinness explained to Donegal Live.

"It’s about getting them up to a level. If we have to hold people back and play 25 minutes or hold them back a couple of games, that’s what we’re going to do.

"Sport science is a big part of it now and we just want to make sure that everybody is in the right place."

McGuinness added: “We’re just delighted to have him back. As a management team the one thing you want is the best players in the county available to you.

"You know he was one of the best - if not the best player - in the club championship and so right away you're thinking, there's more to come here.”
