St Eunan’s and Donegal football star Shane O’Donnell has won the prestigious Séamus Mac Géidigh Memorial Award, Gradam Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh, for 2024.

The award, for the best player in the Donegal Senior Football Championship is named in honour of the RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta broadcaster Séamus Mac Géidigh, who passed away in 2016. O’Donnell was part of the St Eunan’s team that lifted the Dr Maguire Cup in October, and joins an illustrious list of previous award winners, including Michael Murphy (Glenswilly), Mark McHugh (Kilcar), Odhrán Mac Niallais (Gweedore), Ciarán Thompson (Naomh Conaill), Caolan Ward (St Eunan’s), Brendan McDyer (Naomh Conaill) and Oisín Gallen (MacCumhaill’s).

Damien Ó Dónaill of Raidió na Gaeltachta said: “O’Donnell’s display in this year’s final was excellent, and he played a very important role in the other league games as well.

“Shane had a great year with the county and his club. Congratulations to Shane, and my thanks also to the county’s sports journalists who collaborated to select this year’s award recipient.”
