Cork football boss John Cleary has suffered yet another blow with the news that Jack Cahalane has opted out for 2025.

The highly-rated forward, who scored 0-3 in a man of the match performance for Castlehaven in their recent Cork PSFC final win over Nemo Rangers, won't be involved with the county set-up next season according to The Southern Star. In what is becoming a worrying trend, Cahalane is the seventh player to leave the Cork panel since last June’s narrow All-Ireland SFC preliminary quarter-final loss to Louth.

Last month, 2022 All-Star nominee and top scorer Steven Sherlock withdrew his services, while defender Thomas Clancy retired. John O’Rourke and Killian O’Hanlon have also retired, while defender Kevin Flahive has moved to Australia.

Panellist Damien Gore has also decided to take a year out from the inter-county scene.
