Many tributes have been paid to former Kildare GAA chairman and Naas GAA stalwart John McMahon who passed away unexpectedly over the weekend.
John served as Kildare chairman from 2011 to ’14, having been vice-chairman before that. He also had two spells as Naas GAA chairman and was the club's sitting vice-chairman.
"It is with utter shock and heartbreak that we share the news of the passing of our beloved club member and vice-chairperson John McMahon,” Naas GAA said in a statement.
“John served as chairman of Naas GAA on two occasions, being prominent with the relocation from Fr Brennan Park to our current premises. He also served as chairman of Kildare GAA, a role he filled with huge honour and pride, and in the latter years was a familiar face in St Conleth’s and Hawkfield stewarding at games of all codes.
"He filled a multitude of other roles in the club and will be remembered so fondly by every member, young and old.
"John was the best of Naas GAA. A true clubman and a gentleman who supported all codes and initiatives, always putting himself forward when work needed to be done. He was kind, fair and we will miss him so dearly.
"We send our deepest condolences to his family and many great friends both in the club and across the county.”
