Four Irish players have been shortlisted for the AFLW All-Australian team.
Tipperary duo Aishling Moloney (Geelong Cats) and Aisling McCarthy (Fremantle Dockers) are nominated along with Mayo’s Aileen Gilroy (Hawthorn) and Galway’s Áine McDonagh (Hawthorn). Hawthorn lead the way with six nominees, followed by the Adelaide Crows, reigning Premiership champions Brisbane Lions and North Melbourne, who all have five nominations each.
The final team of 21 will be announced on Monday, November 25 at the W Awards.
Meanwhile, another Tipp AFLW recruit, Anna Rose Kennedy, is returning home for personal reasons.
The Aherlow native was ever-present for the Geelong Cats this season after debuting in the 2023 season.
Geelong Cats Assistant General Manager of Football Brett Johnson said: “While it is unfortunate for us and our football program to farewell Anna-Rose, we acknowledge the massive sacrifice that all Irish players make to play in Australia.
“On behalf of the club, we would like to wish her all the best in the future and the next stage of her life and career.”
