Rory Gallagher during his time in charge of Derry

Derry GAA have ruled out the possibility of former manager Rory Gallagher returning to take charge of the county’s senior footballers.

Gallagher, who steered the Oak Leafers to Ulster SFC success two years ago, released a statement through his solicitors yesterday (Friday) which outlined his intentions for a return to inter-county management.

Derry remain on the lookout for a new senior football boss since Mickey Harte departed his post in August after just 11 months at the helm.

Harte had succeeded Gallagher in the post after the Fermanagh native left in the build-up to the 2023 Ulster SFC final following allegations of abuse which made by his estranged wife, Nicola, which Gallagher himself denied.

A statement from Derry GAA on Friday said that Gallagher was “not in consideration for the position” of the vacant manager’s job.
