A rapid Covid-19 testing programme for inter-county GAA players, which will allow for tests to be performed and results returned within 48 hours, has been agreed on ahead of the 2020 season’s resumption.
RTE Sport reported last night that the system in now in place, having been sought by the GAA and GPA for the last number of weeks.
Next weekend sees the return of inter-county action for the first time since March as the Allianz Hurling and Football Leagues get set to resume.
In a note to players yesterday evening, GPA CEO Paul Flynn explained that all tests from the programme will give players and backroom team members results within 48 hours.
"This process will involve immediate onsite testing to be conducted following the identification of any positive test within a county squad.
"All squad members and the backroom team will be tested for Covid-19 with results returned within 48 hours."
