Andy Moran and Tony McEntee are the two frontrunners for the vacant Mayo football manager’s post, according to local reports.
The Connaught Telegraph is reporting that it’s now a straight two-horse race between the former Footballer of the Year and the 2002 Armagh All-Ireland SFC winner to replace the departed Kevin McStay. James Horan has already ruled himself out of the running for a third stint as manager, while Cuala’s All-Ireland club winning manager and former Mayo forward Austin O’Malley isn’t believed to be a candidate either.
McEntee recently stepped down as Sligo manager after five seasons in charge, while Moran has managed Leitrim and was part of the Monaghan management team this year after playing for Mayo for 15 years.
Interviews for the vacancy are expected to take place soon with the Mayo county board hoping to have a new manager in situ before the start of the club football championships on the weekend of August 23/24.
